Enhance Athletes Performance Through Data Analytics & Recommender Systems

Image
A couple of months ago I was contacted by a small training-fitness startup . They wanted to know if applying analytics techniques and methods could help them  answer some of their business questions and  enhance trainees' performance. I told them that indeed it was a doable task. However, they pointed out that the startup had limited resources, a small budget, and NO data... Now, I realized that the task at hand was a huge challenge... Indeed. So, h ow to tackle this challenge effectively, get the job done,  and deliver useful and actionable insight for this training-fitness startup? It was t ime to, again, think out of the box. The answer to these tough questions was to use some of  Google Workspace  cloud-based collaborative tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms), together with the  TRIFACTA  platform, and the open-source  R language comprehensive library; to design and implement an effective low-cost solution; serving the results as fully interactive tables and easy to digest visu

Visual and Predictive Analytics: FAKE/TRUE NEWS Classifier

FAKE NEWS ... A hot topic that has been around for many years and that recently has exploded and got hotter amid the COVID-19 pandemic. But, what exactly is fake news ? Fake news is false or misleading information presented as news.  It often aims to damage the reputation of a person or entity or make money through advertising revenue. Particularly for business, w hy is it relevant to analyze, characterize, and PREDICT fake news? At the same time that fake news is considered a serious threat to real journalism, they are also connected to stock market fluctuations and massive trades. For example, a few years ago  fake news claiming that Barack Obama was injured in an explosion wiped out 130 billion dollars in stock value. As I mentioned in my first post , in this and in future posts, I'll dive a little bit deeper into relevant examples of Data Analytics applications to real-life situations. In this post, I'm going to describe how it is possible to apply Advanced Visualization t

My Data Journey: From Maxwell's Equation to Prescriptive Analytics

James Cleck Maxwell - Master of Electromagnetism After extensive Researching in Academia and Geomodeling in the Oil and Gas Industry Careers, I shifted my attention to Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Advanced Visualization, Cloud Computing, Automation, and other cutting-edge technologies. But all the while my passion and goal remain to get the most value out of data, solving complex and diverse, real-world problems that can have the biggest impact. Now, I would like to share with you a few stories of this data journey. It hasn't been a straight-easy walkthrough, but a tortuous and sometimes painful path. To facilitate the exposition, I have divided it into four main milestones: The Origins Traffic Jams Modeling Geomodeling Data Analytics: Huge Challenges and Limitless Opportunities Please relax and follow me for a while; hope you enjoy these stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them. 1. The Origins In my last year in college and after hav
